Learning Enrichment and Achievement Partners (LEAP) is a 15 year old program that assists Tustin elementary school children who are "at risk" academically. It is a 501-3C non-profit that uses the St. Paul's Episcopal Church facilities for after school tutoring and study skill development.
When the Tustin Unified cancelled its summer school programs many years ago, LEAP "leapt" into the breach by creating a 4 week summer school program for over 150 "at risk" children from across the district. They are recommended by each school and may have limited support at home. They are often hungry.
LEAP of Food
LEAP has a limited budget to provide snacks. Most of the students in the program qualify for free lunches during the school year. These kids often do not get regular or nutritious meals, especially in the summer. The LEAP teachers have seen a dramatic increase of hungry children in the program and it affects learning. Once again this summer, LEAP is seeking support to provide more nutritious, hearty snacks mid-morning and to provide an end of the week grocery donation to each family.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Mission/Outreach Committee has again taken a "leap of faith" that our congregation can help as they have for the past 3 summers. We will be hosting a week of food for this important community program. Our week of service is: Monday, June 29 - Friday, July 3.
Here is What We Need:
- 6-8 volunteers | Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 10:00AM
- Prepare and serve the snacks at the St. Paul's kitchen
- 5-8 volunteers | Friday from 11:30 - 12:30 PM
- Help with grocery distribution
- Shoppers to buy the food for snacks (using funds already designated for the program)
- Donations of food for Friday grocery distribution (list will be provided)
Volunteers must be over 14 years old.
Your outpouring of support since 2012 has been amazing! Please "leap" out in faith and volunteer. There will be sign ups on the patio in early June.
